Taka is a Japanese restaurant in downtown Asbury Park in a renovated brick and concrete block building. The previous restaurant in this location was broken into several small rooms with two front doors, neither of which were accessible.  We opened the space and made a large bar area and separate dining room, and pushed the facade back from the sidewalk to allow for outdoor seating. We relocated the entrance to create a vestibule and hostess station, and redesigned the bathrooms to meet accessibility requirements.  We removed the stucco finish and continued the brick around the entire facade, creating a welcoming space that blends in well with its surroundings.
